John Engle is the Care Pastor at Souderton Mennonite Church. He grew up in a small town near Syracuse, New York and has been a follower of Jesus since 1972. He has degrees from Dartmouth College and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. His wife and best friend Julie worked for many years as a nurse before retiring; together they have three grown children—Stephanie, Becky and Ben—and four young grandchildren. Before coming to Souderton, John served in pastorates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and also as the headmaster of a Christian High School in Massachusetts.
The deep desire of John’s heart is to see the Church of Jesus Christ be as healthy as possible in order to be an effective instrument in reaching the world for Christ. As God’s people love, care for and serve one another, authentic Christian community develops and that health becomes a growing reality. The transforming grace of God we experience in community is meant to spill over from us and be extended to those outside the Church and even to the ends of the earth.
John enjoys spending time with Julie, hiking, fishing, reading, traveling, and listening to classical music. He also uses almost any excuse he can to play with his grandchildren and sample different varieties of chocolate chip cookies.
