Jess Gillespie
Director of Worship and Sr. High Youth
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:21-23
At an early age I learned that I loved leading worship. I am an SMC life member and at age 15, I was invited by the Youth Pastor to play piano for our first “contemporary” worship songs integrated in the morning service. Since then, I have sang in choirs during High School, College and at SMC. When my husband Steve and I joined the Sr. High Youth Advisor team in 2006, I saw a need for guitar players to help the youth sing the contemporary songs that they connected with. I quickly taught myself to play and have been hooked on being a part of the SMC worship teams ever since!
This paring of giving leadership to worship and Sr. High Youth at SMC is a bit of a dream. I can now see that through my life experiences of the last few years, God has prepared me for “such a time as this”. I am thrilled to give leadership to a great team of youth advisors and love spending time with our SMC youth and their friends.
When I am not at church ;), I enjoy playing and listening to music, watching sports and gardening. Steve and I have 3 children – Logan, Sean and Cora.

Jess McQuade
Middle School Youth Director
In early 2018, Jess heard God’s call to leave her 20-year career in the business world, but she wasn’t sure what He had in mind for her. While waiting for God’s direction, she got more involved in youth ministry at SMC and absolutely loved it. It wasn’t long before God opened the door for her to step into the role of Director of Junior High Youth Ministry.
Jess has a commitment to grow personally in her relationship with Christ, a desire to make meaningful and authentic connections between people (especially intergenerationally) and a passion to equip young people to follow and serve God. Some of her “best days ever” are when those three things come together at once!
Spending time with her husband John, and children, Katie (17), Aidan (16) and Kieran (14) is something she greatly enjoys and values — especially traveling and being outdoors with them.
Jess is thankful for the opportunity to work with the amazing young people and youth advisors at SMC!
